Quote of the Week

March 12th, 2008 · 51 Comments

I couldn’t resist posting this quote from the Chicago Tribune article, “Well-traveled Larry Hughes has grown up”:

Hughes calls himself “a guard, period. Just let me play. I’ve learned to take fewer bad shots, to recognize situations, so just put me out there and I’ll try to make the good play. If it’s from the two-guard, what’s the difference?”

How about this nugget from the same article:

“I never wanted to be a specialist. I never wanted to just be a shooter, just a passer. I want to do everything that helps the team win. I don’t do one thing great, I do a lot of things good and that helps a lot of teams.”

    Yeah, like his opponents!!

Great job on this site…too bad you are leaving :(

  • 8 Kimpy // Mar 16, 2008 at 12:27 am

Don’t forget Larry Hughes told reporters that he plans to start (which he has) and categorically said “I am comfortable starting and I am comfortable playing 35-40 minutes”. So Chicago folks, prepare to see 35-40 minutes of hoop excellence which only Larry Hughes can pull off.
Larry Hughes is in heaven right now, imagine playing basketball the Larry Hughes way 35-40 minutes a night. Sound the alarm. We have a winnner!

  • 9 John // Mar 16, 2008 at 6:14 pm

I love this site. We should’ve had the same site for Ben Wallace (I’m a Bulls fan). It’s interesting- you and I had the same feeling the day our cancers got traded. Seeing a team get suckered into Ben Wallace made me (and all of Chicago) one of the HAPPIEST people that day. But you guys got Joe Smith, a solid, all-around prefessional that your Cavs can go to if an offensive set breaks down and James isn’t on the floor. As far Wallace, good riddance!!! At least you’ll get a good expiring-contract trade piece in a couple of years.

  • 10 Mike // Mar 17, 2008 at 10:47 am

    Dude,

You should change the website to “WhyIsWallyShootingThatCrap?”

  • 11 Sam // Mar 18, 2008 at 6:12 pm

Don’t let his words fool you, he’s playing just as bad. Though he did have a good, solid week there where he was playing decent.

Time for the Bulls to get coached into oblivion tonight! Weee!
Can’t wait to see the new thing you do with this website, btw. :D

  • 12 Vladimir Sharkov // Mar 19, 2008 at 12:31 am

That is, indeed, a fantastic quote.

  • 13 Melvin // Mar 20, 2008 at 9:34 am

    the job is done!

  • 14 Kimpy // Mar 20, 2008 at 11:10 pm

Wow, 4-12 shooting to go along with a lot of bad decision making tonight against the Spurs. Lot’s of airballs, slashing moves that was easily discombobulated by the Spurs big men. Oh he also played great defense on Tony Parker.

  • 15 Clebron // Mar 21, 2008 at 2:36 pm

Just wanted to share an idea a friend and I had while watching a cavs game recently.

Larry’s infamous quote “I just want to have fun” led us to think of a youtube video of Cindi Lauper’s classic changed to “Larry just wants to have fun” with video of Larry’s weakest takes to the cup.

Admitantly this idea isn’t well thought out as the video of larry’s driving woes will undoubtely run much longer than the song. Still it got some good laughs and thought you may be able to pull it off.

  • 16 Darien // Mar 22, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Larry Hughes has callously been responsible for the deaths of three kittens tonight. Oh well!

  • 17 Shrugz // Mar 24, 2008 at 12:34 pm

ahhah I read that article too funny

  • 18 Bulls Fan // Mar 26, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Yup, you were right about this guy.

  • 19 bDub // Mar 26, 2008 at 10:27 pm

larry went 1-9 tonight and is shooting 38% on the season. please keep the site alive, this man has no penis. he blows goats, i have proof.

  • 20 truerant.com // Mar 27, 2008 at 3:12 am

Him saying he learned to take less bad shots while he keeps taking bad shots and bricking them makes this site 10 times funnier.

His dumb quote alone should be enough to keep this site going. You don’t need to update it for each game, but games like this, when he shoots a craptacular 1-9 have to be mentioned.

And don’t think of it as being something you’d do for Bulls fans. Keeping the site going would help Cavs fans keep their spirit up each time Ben Wallace has a horrid game by reminding them that by getting Wallace they managed to dump the piece of crap named Hughes into Paxson’s lap.

  • 21 Jon D // Mar 27, 2008 at 12:11 pm

You know what? This site has lost its humor to me. As a fan of Chris Duhon, it’s terrible to have to see Hughes going 2/10 while Chris rots away on the bench.

It really isn’t as funny when it happens to you. All of you who aren’t Cavs or Bulls fans beware. This could happen to you.

    You’re one expiring contract away.

  • 22 Kimpy // Mar 27, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Common guys, Hughes has indeed learned to take less bad shots. 1-9? Big deal, that could have been 2-12 or 3-13 if he had his usual “fun” games. You guys should all bend down your knees in gratitude!

  • 23 Kimpy // Mar 28, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Ring the bell! Let’s celebrate. Hughes improved on his 1-9 effort with a whopping 2-8 against the Hawks tonight. Do you know what that means? He made one more basket while shooting one less attempt! It was also fun seeing Hughes dished out ZERO assist while starting. I remember Larry saying he is been comfortable starting for quite awhile so atrocious shooting and non-existent playmaking should be regular staple in the Bulls remaining 10 games or so.

I believe Hughes looks forward to having more fun by taking an early vacation since the Bulls do not figure to make the play-offs after being hailed by hoop forecasters to win the East Conference.

  • 24 truerant.com // Mar 31, 2008 at 6:35 am

    I GOT IT !!!
Hughes KNOWS what’s best for his team even when his GM and coach don’t. He knows the Bulls are better off going to the lottery and having a higher pick, so when he’s bricking all his shots he’s thinking about the future of the team, you ungrateful bastards.

What better way to fight for a higher lottery pick than taking lots of bad shots and not throwing out any assists ? Not only do you make sure that you score the least possible amount of points in your 30+ minutes on the floor, but you will also have your teammates disgusted and playing disinterested. Just in case they are dumb enough not to see the big picture and are trying to actually win the game.

  • 25 Kimpy // Apr 2, 2008 at 5:24 am

Damn you, Jim Boylan ! Why didn’t you give Larry Hughes his 35 minutes so he can get his rhythm? It’s your fault Boylan that Larry went 0-6 tonight with no assist because you played him less than 30 minutes.

Next time, have Hughes play the entire 48 minutes so he can at least go 2-13 or 3-16! How dare you you took the fun out Larry!

  • 26 Michael // Apr 3, 2008 at 8:56 pm

    11-17 tonight against the Cavs.
    8 rebounds
    9 assists
    2 steals
    1 block
    25 points.

Larry Hughes comes back to Cleveland and says “stick that up ya”

  • 27 WallaceIsWorse // Apr 3, 2008 at 10:34 pm

Yea Larry seemed extra motivated today. At least he plays good defense. Wallace is just a walking injury who can’t defend that well anymore and offensively is just unbelievably bad. Once Cavs fans see Wallace take his infamous fallaway jumper to end a possession more than once, they will feel our pain.

  • 28 Mario // Apr 4, 2008 at 7:54 am

I think it’s pretty simple – this needs to be the title of your new page. Or some other ‘fire mike brown’-type page.

Mike Brown is really starting to piss me off. I think it is absolutely unacceptable for DJ and Sasha to be getting 0 minutes. I don’t care what was said or what was done - MB needs to get off his high horse and understand that he is not putting his team in the best position to win. I would REALLY love a guy like Pat Riley or Jeff Van Gundy, someone who has been there done that, to come in here and coach. Is it gonna happen??? Who knows. All I know, is that if Mike Brown keeps having vendettas with players, he is going to lose sight of the ultimate goal of winning a championship.

I posted that on a forum. But anyway, when Bizzaro Larry Hughes shows up at your door and beats you nearly with a TRIPLE DOUBLE coming back from 17 pts……you know something is wrong. I think this needs to awake you from your shadows. Something needs to be done, and you may be our only hope.

  • 31 Arun // Apr 5, 2008 at 12:44 am

Larry Hughes will now and forever have career performances against the Cavs. I find it funny that the Lebron and the Cavs could not manage to beat the Bulls twice.

larry hughes paid me to miss those dunks

  • 39 Jared // Apr 11, 2008 at 6:13 pm

As several people have pointed out, all the Cavaliers did was trade one worthless player for another. This trade has been a huge dissapointment and I actually think it made the Cavs worse rather than better. Time will tell, sadly I think the Cavs will have a hard time just getting out of the first round the way they are playing right now.

Btw, the Bulls are kicking our ass…..again. The Bulls have lost almost 50 games yet they look like a playoff team whenever they play the Cavs. Is this the curse of Larry Hughes? (GASP!)

  • 40 Frank // Apr 11, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Larry Hughes is a mediocre basketball player but can be used for spot minutes

  • 43 BullsFan // May 7, 2008 at 2:36 pm

In regards to Jon D post number 21. Chris Duhon sucks as well. Bulls fans have a similar yet funnier site dedicated to him.

    http://www.benchduhon.com

As a Bulls fan I am happy about the trade because Hughes can’t possibly suck as bad as Wallace and we are saving $3 million a year. Plus we got Gooden who is solid.

  • 44 Conor // May 8, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Ok, it is time for a site to fire Mike Brown. This guy is going to run lebron out of cleveland by sucking as a coach. Come on, you got larry out of here, we need your help!
