burns excellent

I can’t wipe the smile off my face.

Did that just happen? Danny Ferry convinced another team to take Larry Hughes?! Ponder that for a moment. I’m almost afraid to write about this until the league formally reviews and approves the deal.

Cavs get

Bulls get

Sonics get

Is this a good deal for the Cavs? I think so, but the best way to evaluate a trade like this is to wait a year and see what the hell happens. So I’m holding off on any grades, but I commend Danny Ferry for making a move.

And now the question: What am I going to do with this site?
I’m not sure right now, and I feel like I need a few days to figure it out.

Here’s the plan:
1) Brainstorm my options
This site could go in a number of directions such as: keeping it going for Bulls fans, turning it into a Cavs site, selling the site, or turning it into a general NBA site. I’m also considering shutting it down completely. Or perhaps someone would like me to write for their site.

2) Listen to your ideas
Once I come up with my top 5 options, I’m going to launch a survey on the site and I’m going to let everyone vote. I’ll count the votes and go from there.  UPDATE: I’ve decided against the survey because all of your comments have replaced the need to do one.

So please comment or send me an email (heylarryhughes@gmail.com) if you have any good ideas, and I’ll read every single bit of feedback. Thanks to everyone for all of your participation, comments, and Cleveland sports loyalty. It’s been a lot of fun.

In the meantime, I’m gonna get off the couch and try to do some good for the community.

as much as i like getting smith, west, and szczerbiak, i dont entirely like getting ben wallace, one because he’s almost as good as larry and second because he’s paid MORE than larry, idk how much i like that

  • 3 Chris // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:27 pm

I think you should do some combination of the first two options. Keep updating the blog with stuff about Hughes, but also focus on the Cavs in general.

  • 4 Jack // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:27 pm

I’d say that you ought to turn it into some sort of a positive site for Cavs fans. I found this site on accident and have enjoyed it a ton over the last few weeks. One thing I have noticed is that you were always purporting being pro-cavs and just wanting them to get their moneys worth out of Hughes and would be happy if he really started playing well. That said, if you continue it on for other fans it gives off the aura of simply being anti-Larry and not pro-cavs (and thus by default being anti-Larry for the past months). I mean, do what you want, but it’d be a good way to show all the folks on here who slammed you that you really do care for the Cavs and want them to do well. Great site, I was sad to see the trade to see this site end (sidenote I’m not a Cavs fan and have nothing against them doing poorly with Larry … I just enjoyed the site a ton).

Maybe you could turn it into a “heyrogerquitlyingandthrowingyourfriendsandfamilyunderthebus.com” site or something. Lots of news and joke fodder there.

  • 5 TVBrain // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:27 pm

    heybenwallacepleasestoptakingsomanybadfreethrows.com might be available

  • 6 Andrew // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:29 pm

I was actually sad when I heard Larry was traded, because the first thing that came to mind was this fantastic website. I think you should follow Larry to Chicago, it only seems right, it’s not like his contract is any better, it’s just somewhere else. It’s like hiding a bowl of crap, it’s still crap, it’s just somewhere else.

Please don’t shut this down, and don’t make it a general site, this is the most unique website related to the NBA, you should be proud of that. Ever since Simmons linked you, I have checked this site out daily. Keep this site going until Larry retires, I beg of you.

  • 7 Dave // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:30 pm

You might want to keep this site around for Ben Wallace.

If you thought you were lucky to find somebody to take Larry Hughes, you have no idea how happy Bulls fans are that John Paxson found somebody to take Ben Wallace.

  • 8 [LAL]전당포 // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:32 pm

to tell you the truth, a lot of fans from Korea visit this website to see the fun articles about Larry Hughes, including me. Why don’t you keep on track with Larry? It would be better than make this site as ‘heylebronpleasestoptakingsomanytriple-doubles.com’ or ‘heybenwallacepleasestoptakingsomanybadfreethrows.com’ hahahaha

    anyways, FOLLOW HUGHES!!!

  • 9 Andrew // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:32 pm

TVBrian and Dave are on to something, now that I think of it.

  • 10 vincent // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:33 pm

do what andrew says, it’s the best decision.

  • 11 DVS // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:37 pm

As a mourning Chicago fan…it would be a travesty if you didn’t continue to follow Hughes.

Why should you get a vacation just because your problems got shipped to the Windy City?

    You must continue.
    You must persevere.
    Voice our pain.

  • 12 [LAL]전당포 // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:39 pm

oops btw, let me translate some of your articles to our website. thx.

  • 13 Zack // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Being a huge Bulls fan, I would love to see you continue this site for the Bulls fans. I have been reading this site every day for the last few months and have really enjoyed it. The first thing I thought about when I heard about the deal was that I can’t wait to see Larry shoot in person, and secondly that I wasn’t going to be able to read about Larry every day. We as Bulls fans would love you to keep going.

If you want to make it a pro-Cavs site too, I’m all for that, but please continue with the Hughes posts. Chicago need you. Or maybe you combine it with a Ben Wallace site? You’re going to be just as miserable with him, believe me.

  • 14 Dionysus2k // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:44 pm

As a Bulls fan - I think you should shut the site down and give Larry Hughes a fresh start with his new team.

  • 15 Daniel // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I’m not a Cavs fan but I must say that the Cavs made a steal to get Wally Z. For Newble and Marshall? Anyone agree?

I’ve enjoyed your site tremendously as well, especially the funny captions/speech or thought bubbles…do anything you want but please keep those pics coming!!

  • 16 kyle // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:45 pm

    heres what i say
    edit this site to http://www.heylarryhughespleasestoptakingsomany
Combine them together, now that we have the worst free throw shooterever. Or just change it to a benwallace site and keep this around because it is funny

  • 18 My best day of the year // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:49 pm

I just wanted to thank you for the hilarious site. You might have helped us get rid Larry Hughes and for that I am greatful. Now we have Ben Wallace, who should play better now that he is playing for a winner (hopefully Randy Moss type turnaround), Wally Szczerbiak, a great shooter (42% from 3’s), Delonte West, a decent point guard, Joe Smith (decent bench player), and a 2nd round pick.

All we lost was Drew Gooden, a bunch of scrubs, and we got rid of Hughes. I feel like we just robbed a store.

Plus, the Browns just resigned Jamal Lewis.

  • 19 Saad // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Nonono. You’ve got to keep the site going, and I wouldn’t mind a Cavs fan site with an inside joke for the title.

  • 20 David // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:54 pm

  • 21 pete the greek // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:54 pm

My old college roommate called me immediately after the trade and after going through the initial reactions (i.e. Thank god someone actually took Hughes, It’s so great I don’t have to wince everytime Gooden takes a turnaround fadeaway, and how the hell did this make us better offensively?), I then asked him I wonder what the guy with the Hey Larry Hughes website is gonna do.

I actually liked the website name that someone left on yesterday’s comments.. heybenwallacewhydontyoureboundandplaydefenseanymore.com

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Wallace gets fired up about playing for a good team again to see if we should start complaining about him yet.

Personally, if I were you, I’d look to sell the site and I’m willing to bet someone in Chi-town would pick it up and continue it. From a business standpoint, you might as well gather a small profit while you can. You do have a good setup here on this site, so I’m sure if you wanted to you could start another Cavs or Cleveland sports website and a good gathering of fans that followed this one will follow you to the next one. (And just pray that those people aren’t all of Bill Simmon’s drones and his army of Star Wars geeks.)

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

  • 22 coldfish // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:55 pm

Keep the site. Just change it to heybenwallacepleasestopwalkingontothecourt.com.

Cavs got a good deal today, but they are going to be sorely disappointed with Wallace, who now plays defense like a matador and can’t box out the Vince Carters of the NBA, let alone centers.

Joe Smith, West and Wally have their uses though.

  • 23 Sam Wade // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:03 pm

Wow, what a day. I am in the unfortunate position of being a Larry Hughes fan. Because I am from St. Louis and have no home team to root for, I have been wasting away waiting for Larry to become the player many people thought he would become. He has enticed us with glimpses, like the season in Washington, but mostly it has been disappointment.

I was really starting to become a Cavs fan too. What do I do now? I’m sure I will start following the Bulls, but I want to still root for LeBron and the Cavs. This is hard.

Well done with the site. I have enjoyed it since I found it. I don’t know what I would do with the site now. You definitely did a fine job filling a niche, while it was available. I hope the ad revenue was helpful.

  • 24 noam // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:04 pm

I don’t care what happens to the site as long as you write it. You are hilarious, selling the site to someone else would be a waste…

as for the trade itself, the cavs give Gooden, two terrible players (Hughes and Marshall) and three scrubs for, finally, a legitimate starting point guard, with my apologies to Eric Snow (West is extremely underrated), two 40% 3 point shooters, (West and Wally), one of the Cavs ost glaring weak spots, a 12 and 6 guy (Smith) to compensate for losing Gooden, and Big Ben, who was a terrible fit for Chicago, and is still a good defender and a great rebounder, and who I think will be rejuvinated in Cleveland. I don’t see how anyone could describe this trade as anything short of fantastic.

  • 25 Alex // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:07 pm

For sure, you need to name the new site ‘heyericsnowpleasedousallafavorandretirealready.com’. That is genius. hahaha

  • 26 Chris // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:07 pm

  • 27 jonathan // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:09 pm

i dont think anyone knows how good this trade actually was. wee are all happy that larry is gone. but, delonte is a great young pg who thrived in boston but wasnt able to play well in seattle because so many pg’s there. joe smith has an excellent jumpshot, good defender. ben wallace will be rejuvinated. he never had any skill to begin with but his motivation made him a great player. wally is a reliable shooter which we need since we only have gibson.

  • 28 Mike Starr // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:12 pm

This should become a why can Mike Brown Coach page, with updates on larry and the cavs game reviews. maybe a worst player of the week section. A great section would be to compair the progress of what we just traded and what we just got to see how it matches up. There is a lot to do her and you now have a great fan base ……keep it goning.

  • 29 Bill Simmions // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:17 pm

I don’t know what you should do, but i do know that i’m going to miss the updates. It was always a place to visit for a laugh and a sometimes a tear for larry. Who knows maybe you’ll have more time and so much less stress that you’ll find a cure for cancer.

  • 30 itsallgood // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:17 pm

I think it was the best trade ever since i seen Ben Wallace go so if u guys hate Larry . I hope Lebron stays healthy Gibson heals quick because Wallace is only as good as the team.
Hope the Cavs have a free throw trainer

  • 31 nick // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:20 pm

between mike brown’s coaching shortcomings , ben wallace being aboslutely shitty on offense and not that great defensively , and wally being hurt often , you are gonna need this site to stay up

  • 32 Darien // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:25 pm

Oh my god. GET TO THA CHOPPA, DANNY FERRY! He just swapped a bazillion scrubs for one big scrub and some reasonable quality. I really don’t want to play the Cavs in the first round now.

I’m a Raptors fan, but you need to keep this site up in some capacity. Follow Larry, follow Wallace (double the hilarity, double the fun!) - everybody wins?

  • 33 Rim at the United Center // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:26 pm

  • 34 Tom // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:31 pm

You gotta’ keep the site up. Maybe you could call it: Hey Larry Hughes, keeping taking so many bad shots when you play Cleveland!

  • 35 Joe // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:32 pm

I would get someone from Chicago who disdains Hughes a lot to take the reigns over as the primary poster on Larry Hughes’ woeful shot selection. Have a section devoted to the Cavs at the same time. I think you deserve it to the world to keep everyone abreast of Larry’s performances.

  • 36 Pete // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:39 pm

keep the site, make it into a cavs fan site, and dwell on how bad (d)amon (j)ones, dwayne jones and eric snow are. change to name of the site to something along the lines of:

  • 37 Darryl // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:41 pm

you should keep the site up but then switch it to a ben wallace hating site. trust me, u will be doing that very soon..

  • 38 Mark // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:41 pm

I’m just really disappointed LH was able to play well enough to show he’s better than Jason Kidd and get involved in an even bigger trade. When I need a laugh, this site’s been here for me the last couple months.

My first thought was that it’s harder to follow a player in a different city, then I remembered the Bulls are on WGN all the time (they’ve got worse announcers than the Cavs do).

I say keep up with following Hughes AND the Cavs, I’m sure Ben Wallace and Damon Jones (and maybe the other D Jones) will do something noteworthy.

BTW isn’t it time the Cavs made a blockbuster trade for some new TV analysts? There’s a future blog subject for you…

  • 39 Buc // Feb 21, 2008 at 5:42 pm

    Oh, Great One!

We are all sequestered/mired in the “armpit of America” (as I recall being said in the 70’s/80’s). Take your one chance and cash in! Sell the site to a Bulls fan! Lord knows someone one on the Cavs will pick up where King Larry left off! This from a lifer on “the mistake on the Lake”!

FTR, Lebron with two trip/dubs in the same season was awesome. Any chance we get a third on this one?

  • 45 Kris // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Make the site about the entire Cavs organization and rip on individual players/managers when the do bad, like _amon _ones. I’m sure there will be plenty of crap players/coaches/managers to comments on in the future.

  • 46 BigZ_23 // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:09 pm

I don’t care what the hell you do with this site, but you have to keep WRITING! You’re as entertaining to us cavs fans like dwight howard was in the dunk contest. KEEP WRITING, U 1 BAD MOTHER-F**KER

  • 47 Gilbert Arenas // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:12 pm

I think Larry is a great player….I’m happy to see him go to Chicago where his “slasher” style of play should give him a fresh start…..I hope the WNBA team in the Windy City can finally compete with a player like Larry….He should be able to “slash” right by those slower defenses and really make a name for himself.

  • 48 steve // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:13 pm

yea i think adjusting it to a ben wallace related site would be good. i think his 42% free throw shooting and 5.1 points per game playing 32 minutes a night will give ya enough juice to keep the train rolling. plus hes earning 15 mil, along with a nickname. i dont see how it could fail. i think this will be a pretty easy decision. as for the url…

Once your site was featured in a Bill Simmons article, I was hooked. I check it after every game to read your humorous skewering of Larry Hughes. That being said, you have to continue chronicling his poor shooting with the Bulls. I don’t care if you also feature positive posts about the Cavs, or negative ones about Ben Wallace. As long as you make fun of Larry Hughes, I’m happy.

  • 52 Steve Bartman // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:24 pm

If Larry Hughes sucks enough maybe people won’t remember me?

  • 53 BigZ_23 // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:36 pm

I can’t wait until the off-season. Albeit the Cavs traded a couple of their expiring contracts, Eric Slow’s and Damon “I’m the best shooter in the world” Jones’ contracts alone make up about $12 million. That’s as much as Larry Hughes’ contract! They could get a great free agent(s)! If Ferry picks up another Hughes, you can just bash him instead! It’s a win-win!

  • 54 Tobey // Feb 21, 2008 at 6:39 pm

I agree with most poster in regards to being happy about unloading Hughes but sad about eh future of this site.

I think you need to continue to follow Hughes. I was thinking of a name change to

And to keep it a “Cavs” fan site, you could compare his stats with the players he was traded for.

    Just a thought.

    Love the site.

I think you should wait until we see how the first few games go.
If Ben Wallace or Wally shoot horrible, then you could change the site for them.
If Larry Hughes drops in form with the Bulls keep the site.

Or maybe even start talking about why the Cavs will miss Larry. Once they start playing with the new players.

I think you should just wait a week or two and see how things fold out.

at least you got your wish. i would prefer one of the first comments’ suggestions - keep followin lh and make it a cavs site - maybe you start lamenting other issues like wallace’s fts and stuff…

I am already there shoot boobie shoot, are oyu going to move to New York when Lebron leaves, I am so excited Larry is gone and I can’t wait to see DA BULLS make the playoffs and take down the cavs! HAHA! Good times!

  • 86 Elizabeth from Israel // Feb 22, 2008 at 5:04 am

I love the site, you should continue following Larry Hughes and what happens with the Cavs after his departure. Ben Wallace and Wally will always give you something to tear your hair about.

  • 87 Paul // Feb 22, 2008 at 6:28 am

Excellence in blogging at its finest finery has been witnessed at this time. Cheers to our faithful blogger, and IMHO, keeping a Larry centered site would allow everyone to continue to enjoy the flavor.

  • 88 Matt // Feb 22, 2008 at 6:47 am

This website has flat out made my life better, and it’ll be a damn shame if you sell it. There are a lot of funny ideas for a URL change, but my favorite is wwww.heylarryhughestakeasmanybadshotsasyouwant.com

Please keep following the cavs (lord knows Ben Wallace or Eric Snow will give you more material), but I wouldn’t mind the odd Larry Update.

    keep it up

Merry Christmas and happy birthday Cleveland!! You owe us in Chicago big time!!!!!!!
you can now call this site heybenwallaceyoucanthitashotorfree
throwtosaveyourlifeandandpleasegetmorethanfiverebounds.com We Bulls fans will keep this one up and running. The pic with Larry as a insurgent is too funny!

  • 90 John // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:03 am

I think you should transform this site to follow how bad Eric Snow is.

  • 91 Braco // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:26 am

You should focus on Ben Wallace now. He is going to be new Larry.
And don’t forget to write about how Larry is doing in Chicago.

    Greetings from Croatia

  • 92 Larry Spews // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:29 am

Hey Bill you are not fooling anyone. I can picture it now…Bill.. sitting at the local tatoo parlor getting the teardrop tat permanently plastered under each eye. Then, going home and putting on some old Cinderella “Don’t know what you got til it’ gone”, or maybe Poison’s “Every rose has its thorn”. Then, after a couple of Cosmos, you cry yourself to sleep dreaming of what might have been. Don’t worry I hear E.Snow is available and is as crappy a shooter as LH. To quote another hair band….
    Love will find a way.

  • 93 samboyer // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:43 am

I heard about the trade while driving and almost ran off the road, unable to contain my delight! I don’t know how much/if this makes us better, but just getting Hughes off our hands is such a relief. from what I’ve heard of the Chicago grumblings of wallace, we may have inherited a new set of problems, but it was certainly worth the risk.
The site must live on: Chicagoans son enough will realize what they inherited, and will want–no, they will NEED this site– to publicly air their miseries. if you can sell the site, go for it. But if so please set ap another Cavs site; as Cleveland sports fans we will need a site to commiserate with each other regarding whatever (bad) luck comes down the pipe. You have a future writing for some sports network–this will continue to get your stuff out there.
    Thanks for the great site!

  • 94 Ballin' Wally // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:58 am

You cannot stop this site. I am in the air force and I look at this site every day cuz its one of the only sites unblocked that is AWESOME. You could follow Hughes and do Big Ben also… I think that would be awesome and most likely get even more people following this site!!! Please dont stop this site.

  • 95 Boomstick // Feb 22, 2008 at 7:59 am

Must of what I think has already been said, but I’ll chime in anyway. Gotta keep the site in some fashion. Gotta keep ripping Larry’s suckiness. Gotta love the trade. Gotta give Big Ben a chance. And I think Wally could be a good pick-up. Somebody already referenced his good shooting %, now imagine how good he can shoot when he is open all of the time b/c LBJ is double teamed? That was the most frustrating thing about Larry, he couldn’t make the wide-open shot consistently.

HA HA!! Wait until you see how ridiculously bad Ben Wallace is. He is an offense killer. You will be praying that some one will take his terrible contract off of your hands in about a month.

  • 99 Calvin Thomas Jr. // Feb 22, 2008 at 9:04 am

Larry Hughes is god awful- a real no-talent chump. People on here keep saying how the Cavs fans should feel even worse now that they have Ben Wallace- but that is crap!! Atleast Ben Wallace has the ability/potential- Hughes doesn’t even have a brain let alone the ability to be a good supporting player to LeBron. And even if Wallace turns out to be the dud as stated by others on here, so fuckin what? It cant be as bad as it was w/ Hughes and his consistent string of crucial MISSED shots…..

  • 100 winston // Feb 22, 2008 at 9:04 am

I am a Chicago fan, and I am already pissed at Larry’s shot selection. If you don’t want the site anymore, I will take it over for you :)

CLEFAN, You are a true genius. What a mastermind! I love this site.! You are like my long lost brother. Your thoughts on Larry have been my thoughts exactly.
We all have to thank Larry for being ‘on fire’ for the past 2 weeks so he would be trade bait worthy. And thanks to little Pax man for biting on the bait.

Remember, you can’t spell ‘Hughes’ without ‘UGHH’!!!

  • 110 Tim // Feb 22, 2008 at 11:29 am

Make this a dedication to the most overpaid, inopportune shooting athletes, by deeming them the “Larry Hughes” player of the day/week/month/year.

  • 111 Gmoney // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:07 pm

Clefan, as a supporter of this site from the get go, I think that you should shut it down and ride off into the sunset a champion and man of the people. The goal of this site was for Larry Hughes to stop taking bad shots for the Cavs…mission fuckin’ accomplished.

This is all you, my friend, but it’s time to walk away.

  • 112 C.T. // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:17 pm

You know, one thing is missing here that everyone neglects to mention. The Cavs NEEDED Larry Hughes to play, and play a lot - due to their, uh, situation at the guard position. If Ben Wallace truly had deteriorated as much as everyone claims (which I highly doubt), the Cavs can do something remarkable - NOT PLAY HIM. He can’t hurt us if he’s on the bench. Shoot, I’d trade all 6 of those guys just for Smith, West and Szczerbs.

Oh, and have fun with Gooden, Bulls Fans. He’s probably the most underachieving player in the league. He also has a syndrome that I have coined “Gooden Hands”. Some of the highlights of this condition that you can look forward to: never catching a rebound cleanly, having passes slide out of your hands for inexplicable reasons out of bounds when no one is within 10 feet of you, and get shots blocked by 6′1″ point guards. Other side effects include slapping backboards for no reason, dunking on the wrong hoop after fouls, and receiving technical fouls for punching the pad on the pole in comedic disgust.

P.S. This disease is also contagious. Sorry.

  • 114 Larry Legend // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:25 pm

You need to keep going after Hughes - Mostly because it is hilarious. Or you could switch your focus to Sasha, who seems to be able to shoot twice as badly as Larry. Remember his comment about his offense being his defense. Perhaps his best offense is just clapping down at the end of the bench. If I see him missing anymore open looks when he comes back, I may find myself tatooing tears under my eye for a Larry Hughes return.

  • 115 Bill // Feb 22, 2008 at 12:31 pm

Can we get our DVD back?

Maybe you should leave the site in limbo, you’re getting more comments than ever. Personally, I think you should continue following Hughes with perhaps a separate cavs section, or a cavs site with a HughesTracker. That way if the trade ends up being a bust and LeBron decides to leave, at least we’ll have Larry’s consistently terrible shooting to lift our spirits.

Are you leaning any which way? An update in a comment would be helpful, the suspense is killing me.

Loyalties aside, I think you should sell the site. Chicago is a nice market, someone will pay up. But, as a Pistons fan, I think you would provide the same level of entertainment if you kept the site and geared it towards a Ben Wallace effort to salary ratio and a pro Cavs site in general. If Ben gives effort, this guy is not washed up! If he gives effort, and doesn’t pout, this trade is a steal, if he acts up, this trade will backfire.

  • 138 Mark // Feb 22, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Even though most of the suggestions are hilarious, whatever you do, DO NOT change the URL, even if you choose to stop following Larry.

Sounds like Szczezrzbzizazk may become a problem and warrant some of your great analysis.

And you guys lay off Eric Snow, he can’t shoot, but he works hard and doesn’t complain, and he coached the team for most of the playoffs last year.

    From ESPN:
Hughes isn’t going to miss Cleveland. He said he was relieved to join a new team. “I’m ready for a fresh start,” he said. “It was fun — we won a lot of games, we made it to the finals. I just wasn’t able to be myself. I think here they understand what I do — that’s moving without the ball, slashing, penetrating, making plays.”

Haha, we’re definitely not going to miss you either…have fun “slashing and penetrating” in Chicago, maybe they’ll be able to put up with your 30% shooting…

“Now LeBron has four shooters who have shot 40-plus from 3-point range at least once in their career (Wally, Delonte, Boobie Gibson and Sasha Pavlovic), three seasoned rebounders (Wallace, Smith and Anderson Varejao), a scoring center (Zydrunas Ilgauskas) and, best of all, no Larry Hughes screwing up everything.”

p.s. you guys are going to love wallace. in the exchange of crap, i think your crap smells just a ‘little’ more…

  • 168 Matthew // Feb 23, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Wow, what a quote from the Simmons article linked in #165:

“Now LeBron has four shooters who have shot 40-plus from 3-point range at least once in their career (Wally, Delonte, Boobie Gibson and Sasha Pavlovic), three seasoned rebounders (Wallace, Smith and Anderson Varejao), a scoring center (Zydrunas Ilgauskas) and, best of all, no Larry Hughes screwing up everything.”

  • 169 SplitEnd89 // Feb 23, 2008 at 6:53 pm

Gotta say, I am a happy Cavs fan. Always loved Wally, he’s a great shooter. Now I can go and finally buy an NBA game for my PS3 and play as the Cavs.

  • 170 micckey // Feb 23, 2008 at 7:27 pm

larry hughes = jason terry terry sits at 3-point line a whole day every 3 off dirk double teams and his drives come off the second player doubling dirk running up to him so he pumps and runs y him never creates himself plus big contract

  • 171 leeac // Feb 23, 2008 at 7:42 pm

calling wallace a ’seasoned’ rebounder is an understatement. for a guy who was brought to chicago to provide leadership, defense and rebounding, he was 0 for 3, and that’ not an overstatement. remember that this is the guy who refused to be captain for the young bulls team even after the bulls contracted his services for $60m.

to be honest, if you guys want wallace to perform, find someone that has higher ’status’ than him on this team that will slap him around a little and put him in his place. he’s not any good under pressure as a leader, so perhaps he can become serviceable once again as an overlooked role player that can occasionally outmuscle an opponent.

best wishes to wallace… i hope your stadium sound effects don’t adopt the ‘big ben gong’ every time he gets a block or scores a point… it gets depressing when you only hear the gong go off 7-8 times a night.

  • 172 Ryan // Feb 23, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Gotta love the fact that Chicago fans think they’re in good shape cause they traded Ben Wallace for Hughes and Gooden. Ben Wallace shot 37% taking 5 shots a game, Larry shoots 37% taking 12 shots a game. The good news is: the 2 times a game that Larry actually makes it to the line, ya know driving instead of just chucking up bricks from 20 feet, Larry’s shooting 81% to Wallace’s 41%, so that should mean about a 1 point loss for the Cavs, of course the extra 7 shots a game will probably go to a player who knows that the goal is to put it in the basket, not just clank it off the rim…

  • 173 lakerfan // Feb 24, 2008 at 2:07 am

you’re more than a decent writer and i’ve found the hughes stuff hilarious…i think you should keep the site and keep talking about CLEVELAND because you have a ton of material to work with…i think you should shift the focus of the site to be something like: how far can lebron james (aka GOD - and i’m a huge kobe fan) take the sorry-ass caveliers….face it, every night he puts this shitty team on his back and drags them to wins…there’s tons of material to work with…just pile on anyone not named LEBRON….mike brown’s offense is basically: give the ball to lebron, ben is washed up, big Z is ancient, you have a ton of one way guys (who are good at O and horrible at D or vice-versa) etc…..give it a thought

  • 174 lakerfan // Feb 24, 2008 at 2:09 am

^^ sorta like “lebron and the 11 stooges” (10 active players who aren’t named lebron and boobie + mike brown)

Dude- this site is brilliant. I even clicked the Equifax ad to help ya out!
Keep it going. Just came here for the first time after reading page 2’s Bill Simmons

    Great Site!

  • 176 tomspy77 // Feb 24, 2008 at 9:22 am

Please keep at least part of this site about Larry, I have been reading this site for awhile and I live in Chicago, so please don’t go away when I need you the most… :)

  • 177 JL Bixby // Feb 24, 2008 at 11:18 am

I was lamenting how much I would miss your website after Danny Ferry made last Thursday’s blockbuster trade.

Although I have lived in Chicago for 10 years, I was born and raised in Cleveland and have been a Cavs fan from day one even before Austin Carr was drafted #1.

My first thought regarding the fate of

was that all good things must come to an end. But, then, like Larry’s shots over the past few seasons, an idea hit me like a ton of bricks:

So please consider this option before you launch your fan survey to ultimately decide the fate of your website. And if we somehow take it all in the NBA playoffs, I forgive Big Ben in advance. We all can’t shoot like Mark Price from the free-throw stripe.

    Go Cavs!

    Yours truly,
    Jim Bixby

P.S. I now see I’m not the first to post this idea…

  • 178 Craig // Feb 24, 2008 at 11:38 am

who are the starting 5 now? i have no idea………

  • 179 Alex // Feb 24, 2008 at 1:06 pm

its over. as much as i enjoyed it, you don’t wanna push too hard; retire at the top of your game.

  • 180 Alex // Feb 24, 2008 at 1:07 pm

or you could turn this into a cleveland gladiator/lake erie monster blog. its up to you!

  • 181 Rigo // Feb 24, 2008 at 1:46 pm

…..or you can hand it over to us Bulls fans lol. since i don’t think he will change…

  • 182 Daniel // Feb 24, 2008 at 5:10 pm

I agree with a lot of those guys…. dont make it a hater web site, hughes is, although abhorrent, not quite the worst player in the league. WE NEED a good cavs website. stay for the cavs!

  • 183 Melvin // Feb 24, 2008 at 6:02 pm

so are we going to leave larry hughes then, since he’s not a cavs anymore?

  • 184 evan // Feb 24, 2008 at 6:09 pm

danny ferry sold his soul to lebron..
Hell is fun, just ask danny ferry

  • 185 Adrian // Feb 24, 2008 at 6:38 pm

you could make a bunch more websites on here…for example:
that is for cavs fans…..for others:

  • 186 Bron's Boyz // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Keep it a Cavs site but introduce an ALL LARRY TEAM every week, only problem might be that it’s the same team every week! My 1st honours go to the following line-up
    PG: Dajuan Wagner
    SG: Larry Hughes
    SF: Darius Myles
    PF: Kwame Brown
    C: Michael Olawakandi

  • 187 ngoogs // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:25 pm

dont look now, but larry hughes has shot 3-5 in the first half tonight.

    what a douche. =/

  • 188 Felix // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:49 pm

I think you should close this site. Not because it’s a bad one, but Larry Hughes is Chicago’s problem now.

  • 189 Tony // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:49 pm

I say keep this site going. I check it after every cavs game, and as a bulls fan i definately want this to keep goin. I read Simmons religiously, and i thank him for bringing me to you. Keep it up!

  • 190 Jake // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:50 pm

or just turn it into a Delonte West hate site.

He was 2-12 from the field tonight and 1-5 from 3. Very Larryesc.

  • 191 Tony // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:51 pm

The All-Larry team is hilarious as well.

    good luck!

  • 192 Darien // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Delonte West is 2-12. Maybe its just the curse of the cavs!

  • 193 TheMan // Feb 24, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Keep it open, don’t care what you do with it but keep it open and keep updating

  • 194 Allen // Feb 24, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Keep it going man. I like the suggestions above, especially that Ben Wallace free throws one. I feel like he’s doin stand up comedy at the free throw line.

  • 195 Evan Ward // Feb 24, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Dude this site is awesome. Make it a Cavs fan site equip with forums!

  • 196 Matt // Feb 24, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Larry Hughes was solid tonight for the Bulls.

  • 197 Ryan // Feb 24, 2008 at 10:48 pm

Delonte West may have been 2-12, but when the Cavs were only up ~12, and it looked like Memphis might make a little run, he didn’t take any 20 foot contested jumpers with 15+ seconds on the shot clock. He also had 6 assists, only 2 turnovers (not bad for your first time out as a starting PG on a new squad with almost entirely new teammates), 3 steals and a block. Larry posted 6-11 (very bizarro-esque), but to make sure no one actually thought Chicago did in fact get the better end of the deal, he had 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 0 blocks, 0 steals, and I am told when Chicago had it kinda close, Larry took some really stupid contested 3s - GET USED TO THAT CHICAGO!

You can have bad stats, just don’t have them at bad times, timing is everything, Larry never had it.

  • 198 Barry Sanders // Feb 25, 2008 at 12:53 am

after i was done squatting no less than 610 pounds after swimming a few hundred laps i was curious, what does a knowledgeable diehard cavs fan think will happen when lebron’s contract is up,

  • 199 Paul Kilian // Feb 25, 2008 at 1:10 am

Uh oh, I hope this website doesn’t have to turn into “hey delonte west…” 2 for 12 in his first game and his season FG% is only a percent better than L Hughes

  • 201 King LOLer // Feb 25, 2008 at 2:04 am

    my two cents:

Till the end of the season, combine.
keep track of both Larry and the new Cavs guys,
compare, and debate whether the Cavs are better off or not, whether Larry was bad cause he couldn’t handle being LBJ’s Robin etc.

next season you gotta let Larry go, and if you let Larry go, you gotta let the URL go with it. If a bulls fan wants to take it up, pass it along, but without content, if not, kill it.

for yourself, I say find a different angle on the cavs, and open a new site.

  • 202 Ron0 // Feb 25, 2008 at 5:17 am

First - great site. I’ve really enjoyed your writing. You’ve got a good voice. Always nice to read sports writing from an adult.
I agree with the earlier comment about not following Hughes so hard going forward. As much as you’ve been on Hughes, you’ve made it clear that you want him to succeed for the sake of the Cavs - that you’re not justa LH hater. Picking on him with the Bulls would go against that (plus, imaging the pain if he actually bounces back there!). I say find a co-host from Chicago who can write as well. You get more sleep (not watching Bulls gamed on top of Cavs games), and imagine the sparks fly for those three upcoming games!
    Allt the best,

  • 203 josh // Feb 25, 2008 at 6:27 am

Hey, it seems Bizarro Larry got traded to the Bulls instead. He seemed to be shotting pretty well in his first game.

  • 204 Matthew H // Feb 25, 2008 at 8:15 am

He’s been shooting pretty well since this site gave him the shooting tape. Good thing, too, or Chicago would never have taken the trade.

But he’ll tweak something and then have to sit out followed by 30 days of crappy shooting.

Wow I am so bummed that I just found this site. Anyways….

It maybe too late but you should consider just changing your site to anything related to Eric Snow, I current have more NBA points than he does. This might have already been mentioned but I am not gonna read 208 posts to find out, and besides if it has been posted, once more couldn’t hurt. Like Larry, he seems like a super guy, but lets face it he pretty much sucks. Thanks!

  • 210 Fred // Feb 29, 2008 at 9:14 pm

I just noticed Larry up to his old tricks, a blistering 31.25%, on his new team! Looks to me like Ferry has ALREADY gotten the best of this deal!

PS: You might be able to sell the domain name to a Chicago fan!

  • 211 Chuck // Mar 7, 2008 at 8:03 pm

Ha! I googled “Larry Hughes” and “terrible” and this was the first site I came across.

I just watched him get 2 shots blocked and shoot an airball on 3 straight possessions. Paxson is looking more like Kenny Williams every day (don’t get me started). Who would you rather have right now: a) Ben Wallace, Tyrus Thomas, and Larry Hughes or b) Tyson Chandler, LaMarcus Aldridge, and anyone with a pulse? I was thrilled that we managed to offload Wallace but why on earth do you agree to pick up another *huge* 3yr contract when you just got rid of one, especially when you’ve already got a glut of guards who can’t shoot (Hinrich, Gordon, Duhon). I’m considering taking up a collection to buy him a bike like Jason Williams had (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/bulls/2003-06-19-williams-leg_x.htm), and encouraging him not to take lessons before riding it.

  • 212 FromTheLou // Aug 30, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Just remember a few things about Larry, an individual who for 1/3 of his life has played in the NBA at 29. Nursed his ailing brother during grade and high school as his mother worked two jobs, while his brother waited 10 years for a heart transplant.
Took the high road and in the herd of all of us, has done well in life, he has worked through his only brothers death during the Detroit play-offs, worked through almost loosing his wife to a brain aneurysm 1 year ago. Hence, statements, basketball is not everything on this earth.
He never disrepected any player or fan in 10 years, won the Austin Car Award for the best player to the community and media as a professional. Consistently gives free gas in Cleveland and St. Louis to those in need when he pulls up to a station. One of the true role models. A superstar, no, worth his contract, he didn’t offer it to himself, injuries, yes many, but not something anyone can control and 10 years with another 5 left with show staying power.
So what do we do, show human hate, jealousy and go so far to pay for a site to demonstrate this. I don’t know Larry personally, have followed his career, being from St. Louis, but it is a shame that a man that has battled so much in life, yet gives back even more is attacked by someone that hides behind their little keyboard.
Try to go out and do some good for someone, cause Hughes beat so many on that shot going on thirty years. Thats the shot that will count.
