Larry had a pretty decent game tonight. He shot well in the first half and then went into the tank in the 3rd quarter (with the rest of the team). Overall, 19 points on 44% shooting is something I can’t complain about!
Boobie suffered a nasty ankle sprain in the third quarter when Pacer guard Travis Diener slammed into him. The initial report is that the x-rays were negative and the team would reevaluate the injury on Thursday. But it looked pretty bad, so cross your fingers it wasn’t too serious.
Now onto the fun stuff! Brian Windhorst is teasing the hell out of Cavs fans with this mid-game blog post:
Folks, I have not watched a second of the first half as I pursue some hot trade rumors with the Cavs. They are being very active and are in talks over a blockbuster that has not been reported yet. It does not involve Mike Miller. More to come later.
The suspense is killing me! Is it possible that Larry Hughes could be part of the deal??? I don’t know about you, but I’m glad we didn’t mortgage the future of the franchise for Mike Bibby or Jason Kidd.

I just noticed that Daniel Gibson has a higher 3pt fg% than total fg%! I really hope he isn’t too badly injured

Evan - what? Good gods yes! Trade LeBron to Toronto! You can have juan dixon and darrick martin and the good news is that their contracts are expiring! What a deal! C’MON FERRY!

I’ve been happy with Larry lately. I do hope he can keep this up.
Wonder if he will be traded?
In some ways i hope he does and in others i don’t. I think if LeBron can get about 10 assists and Hughes scores about 15-25 points then the Cavs are fine. I might have said all of that in another post on another day.

They will get Andre Miller for the sake of the franchise.
Hoorai!

The big trade is…(drum roll, please)
Larry Hughes for….KoKo the painting Gorilla.
KoKo will now be featured by the entrance of the Q for Free Fan Face Painting. Thank Danny Ferry!

what are you going to do if larry gets traded? will u bash him while he plays somewhere else? or will you switch to marshall, newble, snow,?
8 DS // Feb 21, 2008 at 10:03 am
People are talking about Miami shopping Shawn Marion… and maybe the Grizz looking for a trade as well, since they still have some “basketball players” which I’m sure they find a totally unacceptable situation given their recent deal with LAL.
Maybe Cavs can trade Larry, Newble, and a bunch of other noobs for Dwyane Wade instead. Now *that* would be Batman and Robin, actually more like Batman and Nightwing.
9 Gmoney // Feb 21, 2008 at 11:55 am
I am so nervous right now. Chad Ford is saying in his chat that the Cavs are inquiring about BEN WALLACE. Dear God, maybe Larry Hughes’ shot selection isn’t the problem. Maybe the Cavs are just run by the dumbest people on the planet.
10 clefan // Feb 21, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Here’s are some blurbs from the Chad Ford chat:
Sean (Cleveland, OH): There are rumors that the Cavs are in discussions for a blockbuster trade. Which team are they in discussions with and will the deal happen?
Chad Ford: (1:08 PM ET ) I saw that. I question whether they have enough pieces to make a blockbuster. I seriously doubt it. The skeptic in me says that GM Danny Ferry is trying to get the word out that he’s trying his best. He’s getting killed in Cleveland right now for inaction. He is trying to make deals, but when you don’t have a lot to work with … it’s tough. If they get a player like Delonte West or Wally Szczerbiak or something … that might be a small help … but not a blockbuster. BTW, I spoke with a GM this week that said, if the Cavs had just one more star type player, he thought the Cavs would be the favorites to win it all. That’s how good LeBron has become.
——————————————————————————–
Ryan, Chicago: Please tell me Ben Wallace is on the move
Chad Ford: (1:24 PM ET ) Maybe … call was about Ben Wallace in a possible deal with the Cavs. I’ve got to stress that it was from what I’d call a third party source … not someone directly involved in the negotiations. So … take it with a grain of salt … but interesting …
Chad Ford: (1:25 PM ET ) The deal as I heard it … by the way … had Drew Gooden, Ira Newble, Shannon Brown and Cederic Simmons coming back to Chicago.
——————————————————————————–
Clark (Durham, NC): Why would the Cavs trade for Ben Wallace?
Chad Ford: (1:47 PM ET ) To make that work financially the deal would have to look like this:
Ben Wallace, Chris Duhon and Joe Smith to Cleveland for Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, Ira Newble, Shannon Brown, Devin Brown and Cederic Simmons … unless Ilgauskas is in this deal.
——————————————————————————–
Todd (Westerville, OH): Why would the Cavs trade for Wallace when the need more offensive help for Lebron?
Chad Ford: (1:50 PM ET ) Ummmm ….All I can say is that owner Dan Gilbert is a huge Pistons fan … maybe he sees something we don’t. Duhon would help them. And for the Bulls … Gooden is OK … and they clear some cap … but this is essentially a lateral move as far as winning this season.
Andrew Cleveland,Ohio: Is the Chicago-Cavs deal final?
Chad Ford: (1:55 PM ET ) No … I want to stress that. What we’ve heard is that they have had talks. That’s it. We all keep hearing that they’ve also been talking to Seattle about Wally Szczerbiak too. Not sure what’s up with that.
——————————————————————————–
Terry (Cleveland, OH): Any updates on deals concerning Cleveland?
Chad Ford: (2:03 PM ET ) I’m getting lots of phone calls now … sorry for delays. One source says the hold up in a Chicago-Cavs deal is that Cleveland wants Chicago to take back Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden for Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and Duhon. I can’t really see the Bulls doing that. Hughes has two years, $26 million left on his contract and where do the Bulls play him?
——————————————————————————–
Dale: Any updates to pass on?
Chad Ford: (2:15 PM ET ) Not yet … I’ll update you. We have multiple confirmations about the Bulls-Cavs talking. The hang-up seems to be the Cavs insisting that Larry Hughes be in the deal. If that’s dropped, I’m told Bulls would agree.
——————————————————————————–
Dub (Chicago): Any chance that Ben Gordon gets moved in the Cleveland/Chicago deal?
Chad Ford: (2:16 PM ET ) I think there’s a zero percent chance of that happening.
——————————————————————————–
Rex (Akron): Your prediction on a Cavs deal…yes or no?
Chad Ford: (2:38 PM ET ) Wow … too close to call right now. Apparently, one of the reasons the Cavs are pushing that Hughes be in the Bulls deal is that they want their expiring contracts and Donyell Marshall to get ahold of Wally Szczerbiak. So the Cavs would add Wally, Ben Wallace, Joe Smith and Duhon. Could it be three new starters around LeBron?
11 Bill // Feb 21, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Maybe we could get Dennis Rodman too!
12 Darien // Feb 21, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I love how they’re desperate to shove Hughes out somewhere else with his 26 million contract. No doubt Danny Ferry shows the Hughes-Kidd comparison to every GM he runs into. But the TATTOOS, MAN! THE TATTOOS! MAD STREET-CRED!
13 Doug // Feb 21, 2008 at 1:36 pm

If this trade is real, then this is a tough, tough break.
Not only does this end one of the best sites on the internet, it probably hurts the Cavs considerably. I don’t think I can overstate how washed up Ben Wallace is.
Lebron better put in some tapes of Kobe jacking up 40 shots a game because if the Cavs are gonna win a playoff series, he’s going to have to do the same thing.
22 noam // Feb 21, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Larry is gone!
cavs get ben wallace, wally szczerbiak, delonte west and joe smith for larry, marshall, newble, simmons and shannon brown
did danny ferry just make a good trade?
23 Mike // Feb 21, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Looks like John Paxson was trying to one-up his brother in terms of being a terrible GM. Good luck with those two head cases, Chicago. And thanks!
24 Kunal // Feb 21, 2008 at 2:13 pm
im not entirely sure if i like this trade, traded a bum for a bum in larry and wallace
i have a bad feeling that szczerbiak’s gonna turn out to be another larry too, just jacking up bad shots, and as for west and smith, not worth it, i think we couldve gotten better for wat we gave up

28 John fr // Feb 21, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Cavaliers to receive Wallace, Szczerbiak, Seattle point guard Delonte West, Chicago’s Joe Smith and a future second-round pick from the Bulls.
The Bulls would get Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden and swingman Larry Hughes along with Cavs reserves Cedric Simmons and Shannon Brown.
The Sonics come away with the expiring contracts of Cleveland’s Ira Newble and Chicago’s Adrian Griffin as well as Cavs veteran Donyell Marshall.

Good News: Larry is Gone!
Better News: We still get to face Larry and the Bulls 4 times this year!
46 Sam // Feb 21, 2008 at 3:03 pm
You guys are totally screwed now, Ben Wallace is total garbage. Smith is good: he might actually be a help. Maybe [hopefully] the owner of the site will move it to Chicago, and laugh at Ben Gordon, too. Probably not though.
I don’t know if Larry’s going to get off the bench, but he is an upgrade from Adrian Griffin. I don’t believe I just said Hughes is an upgrade from somebody. I feel sick.
47 gcowhsu // Feb 21, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Too bad this site has to end as Hughes is now Chicago’s problem. I really do not understand why my team would want this bum when we already have 4 guards. I really know that Drew Gooden is the answer to our post problems!

If I have to sacrifice reading this website after every game, the cavs danm well better win the championship this season because of this trade…
50 drew // Feb 21, 2008 at 3:39 pm
as a bulls fan, i think wallace could be better in cleveland than he was in chicago. he’s not going to be allowed to waste shot clock seconds with LeBron on the team the way he did here.
overall, i’m not sure either team is a whole lot better.
51 Matthew H // Feb 21, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Ben Wallace is the least important part of the trade.
Wally Szczerbiak will replace Larry Hughes
Joe Smith will replace Dwight Gooden
Delonte West will replace the gaping black hole that would be a point guard.
And Ben Wallace will replace…Cedric Simmons?
Wally will be better than Larry.
Delonte will be better than Newble, Pavlovic, or whomever we planned to put in as the other guard. Pavlovic’s a good kid, but he’s not a point guard, which is what we needed.
Right now, Joe Smith and Gooden are about equal. Over time, Joe will will get older and Gooden will get better. Hope Joe’s not signed for too many years!
And Ben Wallace can get splinters at least as well as Cedric Simmons. When we want somebody to give Kevin Garnett another abdominal strain, I can’t think of anyone better. Other than that, he’ll give Z 10-15 minutes of rest per game.
Center: Z, Wallace
PF: Smith, Varejao
SF: James, Pavlovic
SG: Szczerbiak, Gibson
PG: West, Snow
I like it. I really like it.

hmm, ur lineup is interesting, and if it were me that would be the way it would be, but i really think the cavs are gonna try and start wallace at PF cause first of all, i dont think a guy like ben wallace would be too happy about being a bench player, and secondly i dont think the cavs are smart enough to realize that ben wallace isnt good enough to start anyway

I’m so sad to think of what might happen to this site, but this is a fantastic trade for the Cavs on every level. I think Ferry got Paxson’s pants in the deal too. Just wait, Cavs fans, this team is significantly better now. By far.
58 Matthew H // Feb 21, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Kunal:
If they bench Joe Smith to play Ben Wallace, I will be very disappointed. Ben is there for rebounds and defense. Joe Smith can actually score- 23 points per 48 minutes, on 47% shooting.
I don’t give a crap if it hurts Ben’s feelings. Joe’s the better player.
