Bizarro Larry Hughes=very good game last night
26 points, 58% shooting, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 steals, 0 turnovers

Manu Ginobili=GREAT game last night
46 points, 75% shooting, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover

Feb 13 shot chart

Damn you Ginobili! How dare you steal Bizarro Larry’s thunder!!!

But if that’s what it takes to beat us, fine. I think it’s way more important to see guys like Larry play well than it is to win every game. Larry shot the ball with so much confidence, I was actually pissed they didn’t get him the ball in the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter.

Wait, did I just type that sentence?

And I can ignore the fact that Larry had the worst plus/minus of anyone on the Cavaliers team. This was mainly the result of him playing during two of the Spurs best stretches (end of the 2nd quarter and the end of the 4th quarter).

Random thoughts:

  • Fans around the NBA: If you have an underperforming player, I highly recommend the Better Shooting DVD we gave to Larry for his birthday. The best $29.95 you’ll ever spend
  • What’s up with Larry having ZERO shot attempts in the 4th quarter? Was he trying to preserve that box score? Makes you wonder if there’s a deal in the works…
  • Speaking of deals, I’d love to have Jason Kidd, but not at that price! The deal is on hold, but the Mavs agreed to trade Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Jerry Stackhouse, $3 million, AND two first round draft picks! What would the Cavs have offered to compete with that? And that’s for a guy who is older, has fewer tattoos, is shorter, and weighs more than Larry Hughes.
  • We have a new Hughes conspiracy theory! Turbo thinks he’s been replaced by the Larry Hughes 3000MAX robot

Expect a parade through Cleveland if Larry Hughes brings his shooting percentage up to 40% for the season.

  • 2 LarryHughes3000 // Feb 14, 2008 at 11:49 am

what in the world has gotten into Larry Hughes?? i agree i think that he has been replaced by a robot. lets hope that he keeps this after the all-star break.

Not to hate on the Hughes Love-fest here (it is Valentine’s Day), but wasn’t Larry guarding Manu for the majority of the night???

If that was the case, nice fucking defense, ass.

  • 4 JF // Feb 14, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Maybe he passed the weak sauce bug to Devean George? 0-11 that sounds like Hughes….

I really like what i’m seeing from Larry. He slowly built up his confidence this season. Starting off taking terrible contested shots. To missing wide open lay ups and 10 footers. To making lay ups and 10 footers. To making a decent percentage. He has really been improving and he finally seems to have some confidence. I really like our chances with a healthy lineup and a Larry Hughes who is earning maybe 7 mill. of his 12 mill. contract. It’s really ashame Manu played so well. Although Manu scored 46 on Larry, i don’t really think there was much Larry could have done to stop him. He is a streaky shooter and when he is in the zone, he’s tough to stop.

I just like how A.C. keeps remarking on Larrys “fantastic” ability to keep his wrist square with the basket. My question is: did Larry just learn this? isn’t this the first thing thats taught to grade school kids when they play basketball for the first time?

official driver of the Larry Hughes bandwagon. who’s on board??

  • 8 Larry for President // Feb 14, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Quit knockin on Larry…….and while I find this web site to be very funny at times I think it is a disgrace that a Cavs fan would do this to one of their own players!!! This is why Cleveland fans will never know what it feels like for their team win a championship….because all they do is knock on their guys instead of supporting them. instead maybe you should have came up with a web site called http://www.heylarryhugheswere
    behindyoukeeptrying.com or http://www.thecreatorofthissiteisafreakinmoron
    andhejinxedthisteambycreatingthisdumbsite.com

    Larry for President:

    1) I said he had a very good game. What’s your problem with that?

    2) I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - it doesn’t make you a better fan if you blindly support the team while ignoring the quality of play and the effort on the court. Earlier this season, Larry was shooting 32%, jacking up horrible jumpers, all while making $12 mil a year. Were you OK with that? If so, I am sorry I screwed that up for you.

    3) I wouldn’t have started this site unless I felt Larry was playing far below his potential (and below fans’ expectations). 32% is not acceptable. There’s no excuse for it.

    4) Our offseason strategy after the finals loss was to stand pat and hope that our players improved. That was really our only option. And what happened? LeBron got better, Gibson looks better, Verajao is better, and Larry was much much worse. This team goes nowhere if Larry doesn’t improve his game.

    5) Lighten up. I’m just trying to have fun with a painful Cleveland sports fan experience. I don’t hate Larry. I want him to do well. And trust me, I’d rather blog about something more interesting!

    6) Don’t blame me for jinxing the team. Cleveland’s struggle to win a championship goes back for decades. Come on, you should know this.

I feel Larry had a great game except for the fact that Manu GINOBILI stole the show with his typical performance.

    Please leave some comments here…

actually a lot of people were gaurding ginobili… hughes in the first, bron and even damon jones in the second qtr.

although it was newble and devin brown who covered him the most… probably didn’t matter who gaurded ginobili as he just couldn’t miss!

i’m also pretty sure hughes spent most of his time covering vaughn and udoka.

hopefully hughes can keep this up as it will give the cavs a much better chance to win. really wish he would have taken a shot in the 4th, but lebron was on fire.

    clefan
i understand where your coming from believe me…… I’m just the type of person who likes to support people when their down not kick em. here in cleveland we got on somebody everytime they start struggling or everytime their not “earning their salary” but this strategy hasnt worked since we havent won a championship since 1948 (by the way I cant wait for the tribe to start playing again!!!!!) so i am all for supporting larry and hopefully these last two games are a sign of things to come.

  • 13 clefan // Feb 14, 2008 at 6:05 pm

    That’s cool, thanks for clarifying.

But I disagree with your statement:

“this strategy hasnt worked since we havent won a championship since 1948 “

I don’t blame Cleveland fans one bit for the lack of championships. We’ve got some of the best fans in the world, and if at times they are tough on coaches and players, so be it. These athletes are professionals who make millions every year and I don’t think fan criticism is responsible for the lack of titles.

I blame the law of averages, bad luck, and Jose f**king Mesa. :)

  • 14 LarryHughes2008 // Feb 15, 2008 at 6:26 am

and also blame John f**king Elway f**king Broncos.

  • 15 Ben // Feb 15, 2008 at 9:09 am

I blame Michael Jordan and Ron Harper’s imaginary druggy friends from the flats.

  • 16 Eric Snow // Feb 15, 2008 at 10:50 am

I blame Damon Jones for taking all my playing time!!!

  • 17 Kimpy // Feb 15, 2008 at 1:09 pm

While I do agree that it’s not good idea to kick a man’s back while he is down, I still say that if you could not help the team that much, then for Heaven’s sake, at least don’t pull it down. And this is the very essense of this website - Stop taking so many bad shots and just channel all of your energy to many little things that help get wins like playing defense, getting rebounds, hustling for loose balls, passing the ball to better shooters (a no-brainer) which happens to be practically everyone else on the Cavs roster. Is that asking too mcuh for somebody getting 13 million a year? I don’t think so.

  • 18 Danny F****** Ferry // Feb 15, 2008 at 1:11 pm

Blame me. I’m the one who blew my load my 1st season as GM. Even though I understood that Hughes was the best player we can get at the guard spot (Ray Allen, J. Johnson and Michael Redd already signed) but I’m the one who burned all our money for sup-par talent. If it wasn’t for Lebron, I would probably hanging out with Jim Paxson right now! =)

  • 19 Matt // Feb 15, 2008 at 2:40 pm

…back to the Spurs game. Larry did really well. Our offensive strategy in the 4th quarter is to let LeBron take most of the shots (which worked - we scored 30 points in the quarter).

Balki just got super hot … from my vantage point in the Q, it looked like he was just hoisting from anywhere and hitting everything. But from looking at that shot chart, we should have made the lefty go left a few times. He’s too comfortable shooting from the right side of the floor.

I hate that heart-wrenching feeling when an opposing player is in “the zone” against a Cleveland team (Elway and Jordan most notably) … why does this always happen to us?

  • 20 Matthew // Feb 15, 2008 at 7:52 pm

We’re gonna lose a lotta games like this. Z was kicking butt there for a while, but now he’s just tired. I suspect Gooden is as well.

First we were missing Marshall, then we lost Varejao. It’s great when you’re a kid like Lebron and can play 40 minutes a night (maybe), but Z is 75 years old. He needs a break!

Maybe it’s a good thing he wasn’t voted onto the All Star Team.

  • 21 Matthew // Feb 15, 2008 at 7:59 pm

P.S. Sorry, I forgot to mention…I don’t care. Right now, we’re fourth seed. I’d say the odds that we’ll end up third, fourth, fifth, or sixth seed is really really high, and the difference between them is really one home game. So if some Western Conference team beats us by making 16-20 on half court shots, so what? I’m more interest in injuries, personal performance, and other indicators of how far we’ll go once the real season starts.

Hey guys the trade deadline is now quickly approaching… Still no offers for Hughes?

Bibby is the first victim as he was traded to Hawks, should I say a victim?

YAY CAVS! YAY LARRY! thanks for all the hope this year.. can.t wait to watch it all crumble away when the playoffs show up! :) CLEVELAND FOR LIFE (it.s like a prison sentence)

  • 26 Ray // Feb 17, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Totally agree on Kidd. If the Mavericks want to mortgage the next 10 years for a year-and-a-half of Kidd, let them. There is no way the Cavs should pay anywhere near that price for him.

  • 27 infest // Feb 18, 2008 at 10:19 am

Actually there’s no such thing as Bizarro Larry Hughes…

It’s just some Lerry Hughes guy in #32.
I have to admit, i like him.

  • 28 Aj // Feb 18, 2008 at 2:57 pm

What a great game Larry played. But i was disapointed in the end result…The Cavs D was loose and Ginobili just couldn’t be stopped. We let them back into the game too easily.

And i couldn’t believe Hughes didn’t take a shot in the 4th! If he wasn’t going to shoot at least get some assists.
I think thats another place where Hughes can improve. Assisting.
LeBron gets about 7 a night. For the Cavs to win he needs to get about 10 and 30 points. If Larry is able to get at least 5 a night and 10-20 points with a decent shooting % then i’m sure the Cavs can get straight back to the finals.
    Its all about consistency.

clefan i didn’t even know you were the one who created this site, man i’m slow. haha

I stick by Larry Hughes and i have a friend to back that up. I like the comedy side of this site. Its not taking the piss out of Hughes 100%
