Feb 5, 2008: Boston 113 at Cleveland 114 (win)
FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT%
6-13 .461 1-2 .500 5-5 1.000
Good game? Yes.
Great game? No.
Would I say Larry shot well last night? No! 6-13 is solid, but those stats were inflated by a few close range shots. Larry shot just 3-9 (33%) on shots from 17 feet and beyond. So the box score is deceptive on this one.
“But wait,” you say “46% is still pretty good.” Well, the entire Celtics team shot 57%. The Cavs shot 52% without Larry. So is 46% still good?
And of the 8 guards than played in the game last night, Larry had the worst shooting performance:
Ira Newble: 67%
Daniel Gibson: 67%
Ray Allen: 62%
Rajon Rondo: 62%
Damon Jones: 60%
Tony Allen: 56%
Eddie House: 50%
Larry Hughes: 46%
Am I happy? Yes. But before we crown his ass, make sure he’s playing like one of the better guards in the game. I’m thrilled we beat the Celtics. And even without Garnett, it’s a quality win. If Larry goes 6-13 every night with plus 6 assists, this team goes far.
And maybe one day, Larry will dance.

When I saw the final stat line for Larry, I was shocked. Watching the game he looked like he always does, out of sync and a horrible shooter. I would have never guessed 18 points even if I saw all his shots back-to-back on a highlight reel.

I thought he played well. He actually *gasp* got kind of hot in the 3rd quarter.
What am I saying, he still ***** chickens.

I was at the game last night, and it was a good one.
Larry looked good at timesm but he did take a few bad shots though.
Sometimes he looked like he wanted to throw up a clanker, but pulled back and passed.
Larry must be getting aware of his horrible outside jumper.

I have noticed that he has started to “slash” more often. By more often I mean at least once or twice a game.

All Larry should be doing is slashing. He should even take a few chances & slash in front of a few buses on Ontario.
Love the site!

Have you seen this blog

i think its because those guys take fewer shots..

Isn’t this site called heylarryhughes , please stop taking so many bad shots, then why are you bringing up how he took some inside shots and they don’t count, aren’t those good shots? So why are you complaining?

I don’t get it either.
He had six assists, 1 PF, one turnover.
Those are six times that he could have put the ball up for a clang and didn’t. No question in my mind that if he’d taken 19 shots and 0 assists (and he’s done so before), that we’d have lost the game. So let’s have a little love for Larry when he does the right thing, hmmmm? Besides, he wasn’t just 6-13, he was 6-13 and 5-5 from the line, so twice he managed to draw fouls and get his points from the line on missed shots.
Those other guards are nice and all, but how many of them had 6+ assists? None. Kudos to Larry for actually playing his position for once.
I know the real reason you’re downplaying his good performance…
In the last 6 games, he’s been
34/81, 42% 3pt 11/25 44%, FT 26/30 87% Rb 7/19/26 18 assists, 9 turnovers, 12 steals, 3 blocks, 14 PFs.
Per game, that’s
Min 32:40 FG 6/14, 3 pt 2/4 FT 4/5, (18 points) RB 1/3/4.5 3 assists, 1.5 TO, 2 steals, .5 blocks, 2 PFs
In Washington, his total numbers were….
1214/2836 43% 3pt 167/520 32% FT 755/974 78%, Rb 237/779/1016 Ast 638 TO 441 Stl 357 68 Blk PF464
Per game, that’s:
34:40 6.4/15 43% 3pt .9/2.8 32% 4/5.2 77% (17.7PPG) RB 1.3/4.1/5.4 3.4Ast, 2.1 TO 1.9Stl .4 Blk 2.5PF
So in Washington per game, he got….
2 more minutes
Fewer points
Fewer Steals & Blocks
And per minute about the same on the other stats (slightly more rebounds, slightly fewer assists).
So in other words, in the last 6 games, he’s actually been slightly better than he was in Washington. That’s right, better.
You’re afraid you’re going to have to close this site if he keeps this up, aren’t you?

I love it! Good stats there. The question is: do you trust a sample size of 6 games?
And the last 6 games is the timeframe since he received the better shooting dvd for his birthday gift. So I’m actually taking full credit for his turnaround
And let me clarify: I would love it if Larry keeps this up. I would love to shut down this site. That means the Cavs have another shot at a title. So why don’t we set up some kind of bet?
If Larry can keep this up for x more games, I’ll shut her down. But this means he would have to play WELL for those games. Betting me that Larry will shoot above 33% isn’t exactly what I had in mind.
Of course, you would need to bet something as well…
11 The Original Bill // Feb 7, 2008 at 10:08 am
I would take that bet in a heartbeat, I would love to shut down this site, Matthew H you’d the man!
12 clefan // Feb 7, 2008 at 10:20 am
Bill,
It’s not that easy. You would have to wager something too.
13 mike cooken chicken // Feb 7, 2008 at 11:39 am
bill,
bet him your panties!!!
14 Larry Spews // Feb 7, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Bill, If you would love this site be shut done, why do you consistently stop by to dump your blog vomit all over? If you really want some action on this bet, then you have to bet something that really means something to you. Don’t worry, you don’t have to put your virginity on the line because I know you are saving that for when then right guy comes along. So how about your 1/2 of the “True Love” heart necklace that LH is wearing the other half of. Or your “I get squirmy for Larry Hughes” soap on a rope. Just some ideas to consider… dillhole!

I dunno, when I see how he’s done for the last six games, I keep thinking about how it’s been 30 games since he’s had a hangnail.
Tell you what, if at the end of March his post-DVD stats are as good as or better than his Washington stats, you have to go to go in person to one of the April games wearing a #32 jersey.
If he’s worse, I’ll send you the $23 price of a ticket to one of those games.
Sound fair?
16 clefan // Feb 8, 2008 at 10:03 am
So let me get this straight: I offer to shut down this site and you wager $23?????
That doesn’t sound like a bet of a man with confidence. Perhaps last night’s “38 special” brought you back to reality?
17 Matthew H // Feb 8, 2008 at 3:19 pm
It’s Larry Hughes, man. You think the oddsmakers would give you that kinda money?
Besides, I don’t want you to shut down the site, I want you to show for a Cavs game wearing a Larry Hughes jersey. If Hughes does great*, you’ll end up shutting down or renaming the site whether I bet or not.
*or as-well-as-he-did-in-Washington great, which wasn’t all that great when you come right down to it.
