Meet the Larrys

January 29th, 2008 · 19 Comments

Larry had a very good game on Sunday. So good, you must be wondering: can he repeat the performance? Can he shoot over 50% again? Can he NOT take bad shots??? Unfortunately, these things are very difficult to predict because there are actually 3 different Larry Hugheses playing for the Cavaliers this season!

1) Bizarro Larry Hughes
Games      FG           3PT      Rebounds      Assists     TO         PPG
  8              52%        47%           3.4                1.9           2.1         17.5

Bizarro Larry Hughes
Bizarro Larry plays like a guy making $12 million $7 million a year. He’s active on offense and defense, he scores efficiently, he helps the team win games. We’ve seen BLH in 8 games this season and the Cavs won 7 of those games.

2) Larry “I take bad shots” Hughes
Games      FG           3PT      Rebounds      Assists      TO       PPG
  18             24%        13%           2.9                2.3           1.9        5.5

Larry Hughes pumping gas
This is the Larry we’ve seen for most of the season. Horrible shot selection, bad decision making, bad shooting, and not making his teammates better. Quicken Loans Arena officials reported that 482 people at Cavs games have thrown-up in their own mouths while watching this Larry. The team’s record with ”bad shots Larry” is 8-10 and if he keeps playing like this, he’s going work his way into a job at Joe’s Amoco Station on Saint Clair Ave.

3) Larry since the “Birthday Intervention”
Games      FG          3PT      Rebounds      Assists      TO       PPG
  3              44%        45%           5.3                3.3           1.3        15.0

Larry Hughes got his mojo back

It’s been 3 games since we sent Larry his birthday gift, and he’s playing his best ball of the season. In the recent win versus the Lakers, he scored efficiently and he did not take bad shots. Even the shots he missed were good looks with Larry squared-up to the hoop and fairly open. It’s only 3 games, so it’s too early to proclaim a turnaround, but this is a good start.

If Larry continues to improve (and AV gets healthy) I think the Cavs have a shot at the title. And if we somehow win the title, I would expect a bronze statue of my likeness (hunched over a laptop) in front of the Quicken Loans Arena.

If this is just a fluke, well… I’ll have lots of material for this blog.

Note to GMs around the league: The last 3 games are solid proof that Larry Hughes has completely turned it around and you should TRADE FOR HIM NOW before the feeding frenzy starts! Rumor has it Danny Ainge is trying to package Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen for Larry Hughes and some scrubs. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to acquire a franchise player in his prime!

What you’re reading is true, Kevin McHale! You better offer up Al Jefferson for him straight up before the Celtics get that deal through!

Wow, are you serious? LOL I hope Celts would bite in that deal..
I also heard something in Insidehoops that the Knicks are serious in offering Crawford, Robinson and Lee for Hughes and some bad contracts, so watch out

It occured to me this morning that I think I like ripping on Larry more than I like watching basketball. I thought I would be excited at the prospect of Larry turning his game around, like he has the last few games. Although, I realize it’s much too early to say his game is turning around, since he’s only been playing well for about 3 games, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that there is a certain sadness that comes with not being able to rip Larry a new xxxxxx after every game.

It just seems so wrong having to say that he played solid last night, or that he hit some nice shots… it feels very unnatural, almost like I’m being violated.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

I’m sick of Larry always stealing my bad shots.

It should be me out there clanking those open looks!!!

You forgot Larry #4 …sitting on the bench nursing a hangnail Larry.

    Let me help:

G: 14 FG% 0% 3PT 0% Reb: 0% Ast: 0% Allowing Danny to see enough of Shannon Brown that we did NOT pick up the option on his contract…priceless.

I love the Gas Station pic of Larry :)

Wait a minute, Larry Hughes makes 13 million a year before you add in his endorsements with the Free Masons, and HE FILLS UP WITH REGULAR GAS???

  • 10 Will // Jan 30, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Look at Larry’s career stats. There is no way he is going to suddenly ‘turn it on’, unless you mean he is going to turn it on and end up shooting his career avg 41%, which is still pathetic.

…only 482? That seems awfully low to me.

I’m gonna have to see your data.

Well, it’s better than meeting the Spartans..

  • 16 omg // Jan 30, 2008 at 9:17 pm

I just saw a Hughes runner in the lane get stuffed by a big man that didn’t jump and barely had his arms up over his head. Larry looked so lackadaisical and uncommitted in his “shot attempt” that I’m really not sure if it went down as a blocked shot or just a turnover.

I mean, I’d say it was a good shot selection since he drove to the hoop instead of taking the mid-range jumper… but eh… I dunno. With drives to the hoop like that, jump shots probably give the ball at least a fighting chance to move TOWARD the hoop (instead of being swatted away the wrong direction).

uhhh scratch that. LERBONIMUS PRIME IS AWESOME!!!! the cavs are still terrible in my book. without lebron… cavs would be one of the worst teams in the league.

and larry hughes… amazing.. truly amazing.
