Game 42: 46%

January 26th, 2008 · 17 Comments

Jan 25, 2008: Phoenix 110 at Cleveland 108 (loss)

FG          FG%         3P         3P%       FT         FT%

6-13        .462        3-5       .600      10-11     .909

Damn that was close. The Cavs gotta be kicking themselves for not pulling that one out. Larry played much better and did some good things on the court last night. Face it, Larry sucked so bad in the first 41 games, no team is going to trade for him (note use of reverse psychology for Isiah Thomas). So we’re stuck, and we might as well cheer him on when he plays better.

The good:

  • Larry scored 25 points and shot 46% from the field including 3-5 on three pointers.
  • Larry got to the free throw line! He went 10-11 tonight.
  • The 12 people who donated money for the Better Shooting 2 birthday gift can all pat themselves on the back for being personally responsible for his shooting improvement.
  • Larry had 8 rebounds - great total for your starting point guard.
  • He also had 3 steals.

The not-so-good:

  • The Cavs lost the game.
  • Larry threw the ball to the wrong guy on the inbounds play at the end of the game. Watch the video highlights or read Mr. Windhorst’s game recap in which he mentions “LeBron was angry about the last play of the game because the design got messed up. He wanted Larry Hughes to throw him the ball no matter what.”
  • Larry played 35 minutes as our starting point guard and had ZERO assists.
  • Defensively, we did not contain their guards. Nash and Bell scored a combined 53 points, shot 74% from the field, shot 68% on 3 pointers, had 8 rebounds, 13 assists and did what they needed to do to win the game.

jan 25 larry hughes jumping up versus steve nash

Was tonight the return of Bizarro Larry Hughes? Nope, this was a better game by same-old-Larry. Bizarro Larry Hughes shoots better than 50%.

If you were a Vegas bookmaker, what odds would you set for Larry to have a repeat performance?

Too bad about the loss yeah, and comparatively, Hughes played very well.

Nice work Larry! And nobody is blaming you for the loss. Hopefully this can be a turn for the better for him but im not holding my breath. Regardless, very good game for LH.

As a Laker fan, I’m pretty sure Hughes is going to shoot the lights out against us and here’s why. None of our point guards play any defense. He’s going up against Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar and Javaris Crittenton. All 3 of them come from the same school of abandoning their man for no apparent reason and giving up either drives to the basket or wide wide open 3s.

Since Kobe probably won’t guard LeBron until the 4th quarter, he’s going to absolutely abuse Luke Walton and drive at will creating wide open looks for Larry.

I know this is a Hughes hating website (and a funny one at that) but I can almost guarantee he’s getting 20 points tomorrow.

Jay, you mean just like last time Lakers/Cavs played? Yeah.. he did put up some remarkable numbers against you guys….

playing 28 minutes, scoring 4 points, 3 rebs, 4 ast, 2 stl and 3 to. (i had to look that up)

i do hope yer right jay, but no way in larry hughes would i bet on that.

i will however bet on larry hughes, pulling a larry hughes when larry hughes gets the larry hughes basketball, larry hughes. that.s a well known larry hughes fact!

ZERO ASSISTS for the starting point!!! WOW!!! And to Jay’s point, at least Larry doesn’t leave his man for no apparent reason. Of course they just blow by him or shot 75% over him.

you guys are too harsh on Larry! 0 ast?!?!? He wanted to practice his new birthday present for crying out loud! Good use of the video Larry.

Looks like bizarro is back again :) 7-13 today :) and the most important thing - Cavs won! 4 rebs 4 assists 2 steals and even 2 blocks(most in team) looks quite well for starting PG :) I think today im blind for his 5 fouls and 3 TO…:)

  • 12 marvin // Jan 27, 2008 at 6:27 pm

You guys are too harsh. This site is about Larry taking bad shots, NOT larry having 0 assists or making turnovers.

  • 13 evan // Jan 27, 2008 at 6:59 pm

I want to direct this to all LARRY HUGHES HATERS! Larry is our point guard yes but his ROLE is not to pass it to “z” or gooden, its to PASS IT TO LEBRON and LEBRON TAKES IT OVER FROM THERE. Yall should know that if you watch the games…

I was at the game and I only yelled for larry to be taded once, and that was when he took his first shot. After that I am pleased to say that Larry impressed me. Also, a double sighting of the rarely seen but much feared ira newble break away. LOL

  • 15 Marvin the Martian // Jan 28, 2008 at 7:24 am

Marvin, the author of the website brings up Larry’s lack of assists in post after post and everyone posting comments discussses them time after time. You yourself are discussing the assists. If all that doesn’t make a website “about” his lack of assists then nothing can. If you want to make a website devoid of any mention of Larry’s Lack of assists then go ahead, but don’t rain on our parade.

  • 17 Karl // Jan 28, 2008 at 2:09 pm

I guess they just mixed together into 1 normal Larry..
